Assam Telecom Circle was established on 20.01.1987.  Normally the Chief General Manager regulates all the telecom services offered by BSNL in between Assam. The headquarter of BSNL is located in Panbazar of Guwahati. CGM and various General Managers of the authority are responsible for development, administration, finance, IT and marketing, business development, and customer management.  The General Managers of the seven Telecom Districts report to the CGM at the Circle Office. BSNL Assam Circle is the largest telecom operator in the state, providing a wide range of services including landline, WLL mobile, GSM mobile, internet, broadband, and more. It is the sole service provider actively working to reduce the digital divide between rural and urban areas in Assam. BSNL is expanding its reach across the state, focusing on improving infrastructure such as optical fiber connectivity, ensuring extensive WLL coverage, and extending GSM mobile services to villages with populations over 1,000. As of August 31, 2009 BSNL had over 1 million customers in Assam with a subscriber base that included 280638 landline users along with 79,978 WLL users and 919,392 mobile users and 65,603 broadband and internet users.

  • The Assam Circle boasts a robust and dependable transmission network with 25 out of 26 District Headquarters connected via optical fiber and 13 of these are part of an optical fiber ring.
  • Efforts are underway to complete the ring structure for the remaining DHQs.
  • Six out of seven SSA headquarters are equipped with STM-16 ring protection and four have DWDM connectivity with further expansions planned.
  • BSNL Assam is unique in offering various network options tailored to subscriber needs, including dedicated leased line connectivity and MPLS combined with MLLN.

What is SANCHARNET?

Sancharnet is a nationwide Internet Access Network provided by BSNL. It offers both Dedicated and Dialup Internet Access Services, including PSTN and ISDN options. Users can access a CLI-based accountless Internet service and utilize the Sancharnet Webmail service. This network spans across all major cities in India, ensuring that a wide range of Internet services is available to users. Sancharnet also provides accountless Internet access through CLI, making it easier for people to connect online without needing a traditional account in different locations. Sancharnet was established in 2003.

How can one access the Sancharnet Service?

To utilize the Sancharnet Service customers must first acquire a Sancharnet Card.

  • Sancharnet Card serves as a prepaid Internet Access Card that offers several features. Users can easily register themselves for internet access by selecting their preferred user-ID.
  • It allows for the renewal of current ‘sancharnet’ accounts.
  • There is also a diverse selection of Internet Access Packages available.
  • You can contact the Customer Care Centre located in your city to get the card.

The SancharNet card serves as a Prepaid Internet Access Card. These cards are available for purchase at BSNL Customer Service Centres (CSCs) and through authorized BSNL franchisees. Subscribers need a Renewal Card if they are regular users. Users should set up a dialer on their PC by following certain steps.  So at first for this they have to Start, then go to “Program”, then go to “Accessories”, finally click on “Communications” to find the New Connection Wizard.

In the dialer input the username as registration and the password as reg567p then dial 172233. Once the connection got stable then users can self-register for internet access by visiting the online registration site. Here they can create a new account. You can renew an existing one. Then check account status or reset the password.

  • Sancharnet provides dial-up plans with options for 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 hours.
  • Users can access their dial-up accounts from anywhere in India by dialing 172233.
  • Each dial-up package includes a mail quota of 4 MB for each mailbox.
  • Sancharnet also offers a prepaid internet access card that enables users to register for internet access on their own.
  • These prepaid cards can be used to renew existing accounts.
  • The service is available in major cities throughout India, providing both dedicated and dial-up internet access, including PSTN and ISDN options.
