CBSE Board 2026 Date Sheet – Major Changes
Refine regional and foreign language group
Students have to opt for the regional or foreign language in CBSE board examination in 10th class and 12th class where they can choose any of the language according to their preferences. Many regional languages, including Russian, Malayalam, Nepali, Limboo, Assamese, Lepcha, Sindhi, Odia, Kannada, Kokborok, Telugu, Arabic, and Persian, are currently offered in the CBSE board exam. Now board has announce that Punjabi language will also be included in the regional language group of CBSE where students who want to opt to the Punjabi language as a regional language can study it in the academic year of 2025-2026.
Group wise exam 2026
The CBSE 10th and 12th exams are administered by the board on various dates. The board has already announced that the examination for the session of 2026 will start from 15 February 2026 onwards for 10th class and 12th class. In the next year, the board will administer the CBSE exam in two groups: the regional language group and the course subject group, which includes subjects like science, math, and social science. In the second group of the examination, the board will conduct second and third languages exams including Punjabi, Sanskrit, Persian, German etc .
The examination for core subjects will be conducted on different dates so students can appear in the examination according to their subject preferences. But if you are appearing in the regional language examinations then you will not get opportunity to appearing all the examination as board will conduct group 2 subject on same days so it will reduce a long duration of board exams in 2026.
Level based examination
At the moment, CBSE is creating a generalized paper for every subject in which students with varying skill levels must take the same test. But now CBSE is proposing to conduct 2 levels of examinations. Which will be divided into standard level and higher level exams. Candidates who are not good in their studies can up for the standard level exam and students who have interest in the specific subject can off for the higher level examination. So it will allow students to reduce their burden and score good marks in the board examination.
Short term tests
CBSE following summative assessment and formative assessment program where candidates have to face 4 FA exams in the academic year and after that have to appear in the SA exams in the end of the session. But now they are focusing to make it more flexible for students and proposing to conduct module tests after completing each unit. So it will help the teacher as well as student to evaluate their performance and reduce the extra burden of the study.
Term based examination
The SA 1 exam scores are determined by CBSE using the student’s final grade for the 10th and 12th grade boards. But most of the portion are based on final term marks. Now CBSE is preparing to start conductor examination into 2 terms including first term and 2nd term.
The half portion of the book will be asked in the first term in the rest portion of the book will be asked in the second term.
Currently the authority is asking half portion of the book in the first term but in the second run they are asking the complete book again in the final examination. Now students will see relaxation in exams and can score good mark in both terms.
So these are the provisions which are discussed in the recently conducting committee meeting by CBSE to implement new changes in the academic year of 2026 for board students in 10th class in 12th class. If the committee approve these proposals then, it will be finally implemented by uploading the official notification.
